About LVSRC
Las Vegas Summer Robotics Camp is looking forward to its fifth summer camp. LVSRC started because the coaches/advisors for Cimarron-Memorial High School’s robotics team (987) realized that there was a need for science based programs for elementary and junior high school age students in the Las Vegas/Henderson Valley.
The summer camp is open to incoming 5th – 10th graders. Grade 5 will be using the Lego NXT robotics platform while 6th – 12th graders (separated by age groups) will be using the VEX robotics platform. At the end of each week there will be a competition amongst the groups to showcase their designs and abilities. Parents are welcome to join us during this time.
The camp uses the concept of game value and team work to make learning science and specifically engineering skills fun for all ages. The camp director and student director design both games for the VEX and NXT platforms. By using a central game all students build a robot to meet the specifications of that game and it allows them at the end of the week to present their final project to a group of parents.
The camp is facilitated by adults and high school students. The camp directors have a vast knowledge of robotics. Three of the directors wrote the high school robotics curriculum used in the State of Nevada, four of the directors hold world championship rings for the 2007 win by CMHS robotics. Combined the directors have thirty-seven years of experience in teaching robotics within the state of Nevada. If you would like to learn more visit www.lvsrc.com/staff.html.
